About Espresso Witch

Espresso Witch began with a simple realization: for many of us, the only quiet moment we get in a day is the one that happens with a cup of coffee in our hands.

Between work, family, responsibilities, and the constant noise of modern life, that small pause — the minute it takes to make or buy a cup — is often the only time we check in with ourselves. But most mornings we ask the wrong question. We ask, “What kind of caffeine do I want today?” when the real question is “What kind of support do I need?”

Espresso Witch grew out of that idea.

The project began with the book Espresso Witch: Coffee Alchemy for the Tired & Powerful, a playful guide to turning the coffee you already drink into a small daily ritual. The book introduces simple recipes, intention prompts, and five core “charges” — Protection, Focus, Softness, Energy, and Transmutation — that help people align their coffee ritual with what they actually need from the day ahead.

From there, Espresso Witch expanded into ritual boxes, refill jars, and small tools designed to make that daily moment feel intentional and supportive instead of rushed and automatic.

Espresso Witch isn’t about complicated ceremonies or believing in anything mystical. It’s about paying attention to the moment you already have — the cup you’re already making — and using it as a tiny reset before the rest of the day begins.

Created by Susan Gifford, Espresso Witch blends coffee culture, practical rituals, and a little bit of playful magic to help tired people start the day feeling just a little more supported.

Susan Gifford is the creator of Espresso Witch. She’s a wife, a mother of two, and the family chaos coordinator. A people operations professional and former broadcast journalist with a master’s degree in marketing and communications, Susan has spent more than a decade studying how systems, habits, and small choices shape how people feel—and sharing what actually works. Espresso Witch grew from that same belief: that everyday rituals, done with intention, can change how we move through our days.
