What is The First Sip Oath?

What is The First Sip Oath?

The First Sip Oath

You were going to make coffee anyway.

The First Sip Oath exists for a very small reason:

The moment right before you drink it.

Why I Wrote This

When I was writing Espresso Witch, I kept coming back to one specific moment.

Not the brewing.
Not the ingredients.
The first sip.

That small pause where the cup is in your hands, but you haven’t quite started yet.

Most of the time, we skip it.

We’re already thinking about what’s next. Already behind. Already moving.

And that moment disappears.

So I wrote something to hold it in place.

The Oath

It’s simple.

Not something to perform.
Not something to get right.
Just something you can return to if you need it.

I acknowledge that I am tired.
I acknowledge that I am powerful.

I will not rush this cup.
I will not apologize for needing it.

I will let this coffee meet me where I am
and carry me forward as I am able.

For this moment,
this sip is enough.

You don’t have to say it out loud.

You don’t even have to say it at all.

What It’s Really Doing

It doesn’t fix your morning.

It doesn’t make you more productive or more focused.

It gives you something smaller:

A pause.

A moment where you acknowledge where you actually are before the day starts asking things of you.

You’re tired.
You’re still capable.

Both are true.

The Only Part That Matters

The words aren’t the point.

The pause is.

Holding the mug. Taking one intentional sip. Letting that moment belong to you.

That’s the practice.

If You Try It

You don’t need to remember the whole thing.

Just try this:

Pause.
Take one sip.
Don’t rush it.

Let that be enough.

The Point

You don’t need a perfect morning.

You don’t need to get it right.

You just need a moment that belongs to you.

This is one way to take it.
